The Essence of Presence…
Glenna Salsbury, CSP, CPAE
If you could pick one word to describe the world-class communicators, it might be “presence.” Their presence transcends the platform and deeply touches the lives of those they speak with. And that presence comes from authenticity…
No one in the world has your exact fingerprint, DNA, or voice pattern. And no one has your precise life experience, philosophical insights and wisdom. This powerful presentation will explore how you harness those unique elements – your authentic self – to reach and teach your audiences in a profound and lasting way.
There may be no one better in the world to speak on this topic than Glenna Salsbury, a legend in the speaking profession who has delighted audiences since 1980. She’s a CSP, CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame member, former NSA president, and Cavett Award recipient.
Glenna will reveal five ways for you to enhance your effectiveness (and joy!) as a speaker. You’ll discover how to share “the authentic you” in all your richness with your audiences.
Your ability to discover and communicate your unique message is the essence of powerful platform presence. This may well be the pivotal message of your entire career.

Contrarian Cafe
Start your morning at the Contrarian Cafe. Eavesdrop on a band of critical thinkers as they feast on the sacred cows of the speaking profession.
Listen in as they debate whether or not getting friends to buy your book from Amazon on a certain date so its “ranked #1″ for six minutes really qualifies it as a “bestseller.” Or why insisting on “fee integrity” is worth starving to death. Maybe you’ll learn why some think the label “professional speaker” doesn’t even make sense.
If they’re really feeling contrarian, they might get into why the majority of speakers are totally indistinguishable from each other, and whether they are becoming irrelevant in a rapidly shifting world.
Frankly, we don’t know what mood they’ll be in or what they’ll get into. Think of it as “caffeine for your brain!”
Warning: There ain’t no decaf at the Contrarian Cafe!
How Do You Catch Success?
Lou Heckler, CSP, CPAE
So how do you “catch” success in the speaking profession? First, you have to thrill your audiences! And you must be able to adjust to the changing marketplace. This powerful keynote from Lou Heckler will help you do both.
Lou will share many of the lessons he learned in his 30-plus years in the speaking profession – and the insights he developed from eight years as a catcher in youth baseball. You’ll learn how to apply those lessons to advance your own career.
Just as the catcher leads the team on the baseball field, top speakers command the room through three key skills: awareness, adaptability and acuity.
Lou is a consummate communicator, and has made a living from the printed and spoken word since he was 14. In his teen years, he wrote a column for a weekly newspaper. He has served as a speech instructor and course supervisor at the Defense Information School, worked as a TV anchorman, and been a professional speaker since 1980. He is a CSP, CPAE, and has been honored with NSA’s highest honor, the Cavett Award. This program will help you be an “All Star” every time you speak!

How the Age Wave is Transforming Our Lives, Our World and Our Profession
Ken Dychtwald, PhD
In this visionary presentation, you’ll discover how the “age wave” will reshape our lives, families, businesses, government, work, leisure and retirement – and how the speaking profession will be transformed in the process. You’ll learn deep insights into the population shifts that are occurring and what they mean for your business, and your clients’ business.
And there’s no one better qualified to present this program than Dr. Ken Dychtwald. Over the past 30-plus years, Ken has addressed more than 2 million people worldwide. He’s emerged as the world’s foremost visionary and original thinker regarding the lifestyle, marketing, health and workforce implications of the age wave.
Ken is a psychologist, gerontologist, and best-selling author of 16 books, including Bodymind, The Power Years: A User’s Guide to the Rest of Your Life, and the iconic, Age Wave: The Challenges and Opportunities of an Aging Society. In 2007, he had his debut as a documentary filmmaker with the acclaimed PBS specials The Boomer Century and With Purpose.
In this insightful and mind-stretching presentation, you’ll gain understanding on what types of products, services, marketing strategies and messages will be most impactful, as the baby boom becomes an age wave. How will increasing longevity and declining fertility impact our world? Do people want to live traditional “linear” or more flexible “cyclic” lives and how does that alter brand loyalty? How will the age wave impact the consumer marketplace and which sectors and products will shrink, and which will grow? And most importantly, what is the role that you as a speaker, author or consultant can play in helping people navigate the path to successful and healthy longevity?

From No Gigs to Keynoter: How to Explode Your Business Using Viral Marketing
Scott Stratten
Scott went from no bookings to full-fee keynotes in one week due to his viral marketing campaign almost a decade ago. The lessons he learned then are some of the most fundamental rules that speakers should heed. Word of mouth has been around since the dawn of time. People spread awesome stuff. The same applies for content for your speaking business. Why we spread things hasn’t changed, how we spread it has. This session will rip apart the common myths about viral marketing and social media and how your content can be the stuff of awesome. By attending this session, you will be able to: determine what types of video get spread, and which are a waste of bandwidth; know how we as speakers tend to stop the spread of our own content and how to fix it; choose the right social media tools from a sea of misused options.

Passion for the Platform…
Kyle Maynard
As professional speakers, we seek to speak and motivate others. But what happens when the motivator needs the motivation? Where do we then find the passion for the platform?
If you were unsuccessful in your first 35 speeches, would you have gone out for number 36? If everyone told you what you wanted to do was impossible, would you still give it a shot? If you faced public ridicule and attack, would you give up on your dream?
Kyle Maynard faced obstacles more daunting than these. He was born with a condition known as congenital amputation that has left him with arms that end at the elbows and legs that end near his knees. Yet his dream was to become a wrestler, weightlifter and mixed martial artist.
Kyle lost his first 35 wrestling matches. The Athletic Commission denied him a license to fight. And when he finally got the right, his opponent called him a publicity-seeking freak show. Yet Kyle went on to succeed in all of these endeavors, and became an inspiration to millions around the world.
When our other three keynoters began their careers, Kyle Maynard wasn’t even born yet! Yet this rising star has quickly created a buzz in the profession, enthralling audiences with his spellbinding story.
But all this didn’t come without some serious challenges and doubt. In this inspiring presentation, he’ll share the demons he had to conquer and the transformational experience that allowed him to recapture his passion for the platform. You’re sure to find many lessons and analogies to your own career and what drives you to speak.
Kyle has appeared on Oprah, Larry King Live, 20/20, Good Morning America, and the CBS Early Show. He has been featured as a cover story in USA Today, on HBO Real Sports, and the ESPN documentary, A Fighting Chance. His book, No Excuses, became a New York Times bestseller.
